v     Brief Overview

Ø      Camera

§         tape:

·        select the right format (digital camera can be with 8mm tape or DV tape)

·        make sure tape is not locked, damaged,

·        forward the beginning of tape

§         automatic settings: when and how   

§         manual settings: when and how

·        don. t shake [excessively]

·        don. t zoom [excessively]

·        don. t  move [excessively]

·        light, focus, colors (indoors, outdoors)

§         don. t forget to bring with you: tape, batteries, filters, lenses

Ø      iMovie:

§         update to 2.0 version

§         look for as much hard drive space as possible

·        why: video data takes a lot of space

·        hard drive: check you hard drive

·        zip drive

·        CD burner

·        external HD.

v     Making a movie

Ø      have a plan: what do you want to tape, who, how& imagine all in your head

Ø      make doubles: as many as you can, different angles and camera settings (shutter open more or less)

Ø      shoot from different angles and positions; everything looks different through the lense

Ø      make shots not too long (over 30 sec) if necessary and not to short (below 5 sec)

Ø      getting ready for editing&

§         digitize as less as you can (follow what. s left as space on the HD)

§         clean and prepare for editing, store on tape if HD is out of space

§         connect Fireware cable from camera to computer (pay attention to different ends).  If everything OK, screen tells you that camera is connected.

Ø      edit

§         follow how much HD space have you left while clips are filling out iMovie.

§         drag and drop clips to timeline.

§         don. t hurry with transitions and titles before editing of content is finished: save time

§         experiment with doubles

§         experiment with sequence

v     Tricks

Ø      want sound not picture from existing clip or vice versa

§         drag clip from the library and open in QuickTime Pro.  Save as music file.  Insert back in the timeline of the project

Ø      want black spaces

§         create a blank clip.  Drag and drop margins with the mouse

Ø      want letters over black or image

§         check box in the transitions window for letter over black

§         un check box in the transitions window for over image

Ø      want fast or slow motion

§         find the ruler on the bottom of the screen

Ø      want third party music

§         choose sounds. tab

·        import sounds

·        import music

¨      file formats: aiff (Mac), wav (MS), mp3, MIDI

Ø      want third party voice

§         record voice and lay in the second audio strip

·        don. t forget to adjust the correlation of audio strips volume

§         Your audience

·        One/several users (CD) v/s big audience (tape)

·        American based (NTSC) v/s overseas (PAL/SECAM)

§         Your media possibilities:
